10 Tips for Running a Successful Business

The following 10 points are just that, points, please feel free to add your own or at the least gauge the effectiveness of the 10 tips.

1. Surround Yourself and Your Business with Postive, Enthusiastic people that love doing what they do. If you enjoy doing what you are doing, well it's not just work...is it.

2. Become Organised. If you are unable to organise your records, invoices, statements and bills, then make the time. Without correct Policies and Procedures in place, an organised office or workshop, mistakes and inefficiencies will appear. In the event that you are unable to become organised, employ or engage someboby that will.

3. Your image and appearance and those of your employees, workshop or office, directly reflects your beliefs and attitudes. What does your presentation reflect to your customers? This applies if you work in a computer environment or a mechanical workshop.

4. Every Phone Call or visitor should be treated the same regardless of the nature of their contact. By treating them the way you would like to be treated once again reflects upon you and your business. You never know, one day they may very well become a Customer.

5. Go the Extra Mile. Do what you promise to do and then give more. Create an environment of reliability and your customers will soon be using your customer service standards as a benchmark to other businesses they visit.

6. Be Genuine. Compliment customers, visitors and your team sincerely.

7. Implement one new marketing idea every week. Get your team and customers involved and select one new idea each and every week. Openly encourage your team for innovative ideas and suggestions. One new idea alone may produce an increase in sales and profit. Your Team will look forward to providing suggestions and your customers will look forward to reaping the benefits.

8. Work On the Business not In the Business when you find yourself concerned about bills and lack of sales. Transferring your energy in finding solutions is far greater than stressing about things that you can not directly alter. Always work On the Business not In the Business.

9. Be ethical in every aspect of your Business, regardless of the result.

10. Take time for yourself. Allow yourself to be pampererd, visit a winery, your favourite restaurant, catch up with family and friends, go camping or just read a book. There is no point in working 20 hours a day 7 days a week for 10 years to end up the richest person in the cemetery. Take time to enjoy your journey with your family and friends.
